Social programme and Excursions
Registeration to the social programmes and excursions is closed!
The excursions will take place if the minimum number of participants is reached.
If there are not enough participants registered for the excursion, participation will be either cancelled, or the organizer will offer participation in another excursion or group.

If you wish to pay for the social programme / excursion separately, please enter your registration first. After your registration is completed, kindly contact: to arrange for booking and separate payment for the excursion.
Ice breaking party
Venue: Tampere Hall

The Ice breaking party is open to all and is a great way to start the conference week by unwinding a little after the traveling journey to Tampere with colleagues you haven’t met in a while.
The city of Tampere offers a glass of sparkling. Light food will also be served.
Conference Dinner

After the Dinner and associated programme, the evening will be continued at Nightclub Joselin’s and Karaoke in the Wintergarden.
Scandic Rosendahl is situated by Lake Pyhäjärvi, approximately 3 kilometers from the city centre of Tampere. There will be bus transportation between 18:30-19:10 from Tampere Hall to Dinner and return bus transportation from Rosendahl after dinner.
Young Investigator Network (YIN) event

The YIN Event for PhD Students and young PostDocs is meant to give all young investigators a time and space for networking and learning about this year’s topic “Visualization in Science”. Expert in the field Andreas Dahlin will give an interactive workshop. Be sure to participate in our Meme competition.

TAU Aerosol Physics Laboratory tour

Visit the laboratories of Tampere University Aerosol Physics group at a near-by Hervanta campus. The group advance multidisciplinary science in the areas of combustion aerosols, atmospheric aerosols, nanoparticle synthesis, nanostructured coatings, and relevant measurement techniques.
The fee includes public tram ticket and small snack with coffee/tea.
Excursion to Hyytiälä
Venue: Hyytiälä

Visit the Hyytiälä supersite, where groundbreaking science has been made for over one hundred years. Participants will have a chance to visit the Station for Measuring Ecosystem-Atmosphere Relations (SMEAR II) and enjoy nature in one of the best characterized sites in the world.
The fee includes: transportation, coffee, guided visit to SMEAR II, a memorable “boreal dinner”, and option for sauna.

Afternoon sauna

There are two public mixed saunas at Kuuma. The bigger one is the smoke sauna and the smaller of our saunas is a traditional wood-heated sauna.
So, remember to bring your swimsuit with you – should you forget or for other reasons need to rent swimming gear, that’s also possible with 3 euros per person.
* ”Löyly” is a Finnish word for the steam and heat of the sauna: “heittää löylyä” means to throw water on the stove stones to create even more heat and steam.
Brewery tour Plevna and Teerenpeli

Get to know more of Tampere and Finland whilst visiting two local alcohol manufacturers.
At Plevna Brewery you will find out more about beer brewing and taste the products. At Teerenpeli you will find out about Finnish whisky and how it finds its way from a field to the glasses, and also get some taste samples.
Transportation partly by tram to Plevna included, the breweries are a walking distance apart. Tour ends at the centre of Tampere.
Walking tour in Tampere

Our guide will take you around Tampere and along the rapids in the Centre. Get to know more of this fascinating town and its history.
The walking tour also includes a visit to the market hall where you get to taste some local delicacies. Tour ends at the Market Hall.
Cruise and lunch on Lake Pyhäjärvi
Date: Wednesday, 28 August
Duration: 14:30–17:00

Meeting point: Departure from Tampere Hall at 14:00, walk to the harbour with Conference assistants. The boat departs at 14:30 sharp from Laukontori harbour. You can also come to the harbour on your own.
Minimum 50 / maximum 100 persons
See Southern Tampere from the lake, and feast on the beautiful lakeside scenery, while enjoying a tasty buffet lunch. The price includes the cruise, guidance in English, and a buffet lunch.
